African Women Alliance

Rooted in community, driven by women

The African Women Alliance is more than an organization – it is a home for women of African heritage building thriving lives, families, and futures across the diaspora.

Who We Are

A foundation where every woman can thrive

The African Women Alliance (AWA) exists to uplift African women and girls through education, advocacy, cultural celebration, and essential services. We believe that opportunity should never depend on where you come from.

We work alongside families navigating new beginnings – helping them access healthcare, secure meaningful work, understand immigration pathways, and find community. And we celebrate the richness of African culture so that pride in our heritage is passed to the next generation.

When a woman rises, her whole community rises with her. That belief is at the heart of everything we do.

Our Values

What guides our work

Four principles shape how we show up for the women and families we serve.

01

Dignity

Every woman deserves to be seen, heard, and treated with respect — no exceptions, no conditions.

02

Community

We go further together. We build networks of support that outlast any single program or moment.

03

Heritage

Our culture is our strength. We celebrate it loudly and pass it forward with pride.

04

Advocacy

We raise our voices where decisions are made, ensuring African women and families are represented.

Our Story

From a small circle to a growing movement

AWA began with a simple truth: women supporting women can change everything.

2018

The Alliance is founded

A group of African women in the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area came together to support newly arrived families finding their footing.

2020

Services expand

We formalized partnerships with local agencies to broaden access to healthcare, employment, and immigration support.

2023

Culture takes center stage

Our first large-scale cultural festivals brought hundreds together to celebrate African food, music, art, and story.

Today

A thriving network

With 500+ families served and a dedicated corps of volunteers, AWA continues to grow — one woman, one family, one community at a time.
